Game review
The game in itself will keep you entertained for hours with lots of additional quests running along the main mission. Might be better to get the version with 'shivering isles' included as it is cheaper to buy the full game.
A true masterpiece!
Oblivion is one of the reasons I bought an Xbox 360 after the graphics card on my old pc went bust! Furthermore, following a system error, I lost 4 years of playing on Oblivion, and I found that I really missed playing it! So, having finally bought the 360, I immediately purchased Oblivion, and how wonderful it is to play it again!
The graphics are wonderful - gorgeous to look at! The sounds are amazing - everything from the crunch of your feet on the snowey mountain sides to the booming thunder that heralds your approach to one of the dreaded Oblivion gates (complete with the sky turning blood red!
This game oozes atmosphere and has real substance.
However, its not the sort of game you can play for just half an hour - more like 4, if not more! depends on your other commitments ;D
Furthermore, i've found that, by sticking to the main quests, I've made more progress in a couple of weeks than I managed on the PC - indeed, it is easy to get sidetracked and go off rambling through the countryside to find some of the other missions!
I wont go on, but I truly consider this to be my all time favourite computer game (with just under 20 years of playing experience!).
Pure magic.
RPG HEAVEN!
I am a huge RPG fan and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is one of the finest games of its genre.
I fell in love with RPG's when I played `Sword of Vermillion' on the Saga Mega Drive. For too many years now I have been dying for developers to make a remake of Sword of Vermillion and Oblivion is as close to that game as I could have ever wished for.
It is a massive game with amazing graphics and truly brilliant RPG game play. The freedom of the game play (go anywhere, do anything), the scale of weapons, armour, shields, items etc, the varied enemies, the list just goes on and on.
Oblivion is not going appeal to everyone, but if you love RPG / adventure games and just want to get lost in another world that will take up hours and I mean many, many hours of your time, then you owe it to yourself to get this game. Best £10 I have ever spent.
I know from reading the reviews on Amazon, that one of the biggest criticisms of this game is the amount of slow loading times. It did play on my mind when I went out to buy the game. I have an Xbox 360 Arcade and I have NOT experienced long loading times at all. I think it may be because the game runs slower on 20 gigabyte + consoles. If you do experience problems with loading times, Hold down the A button as you start up the game and it should speed things up.
Happy gaming!
Literally, the best game ever
Oblivion will addict you, you wont be able to put down the controller. The hundreads of hours, the 70 odd missions and lets not forget the fact that every were you turn wou will find something new to enthrall you for hours and hours. This isn't a game its a life.
Good but yet to reach its potential
As a gamer who was almost addicted to Morrowind, i must say i was slightly disappointed. I bought this because it looked fantastic, its an elder scrolls game and its huge, but each of those reasons have their flaws. 1. Oblivion does look absolutely brilliant, with waterfalls, ruins, hillsides, caves, towns everything really. However, quite often you see a "unloaded" landscapes, where trees are yet to appear, with detail is missing ( a problem that Morrowind also suffered). 2. I'm glad that these games all have the "do what you want" option and Oblivion keeps that, with better stuff for you to do, or at least updated stuff from the past games like better customization and buying property. Although there are some tweaks that have changed the game on a large basis, the lock-pick system is something that i quite frankly despise. I don't mind opening the locks myself, but the way the picks are obtained, and their durability is simply frustrating. Another turn off is yet again, small details like the changing appearance of your character when stricken by vampirism. Everyone knows what vampires look like, pale, two fangs, dark, slick. But In Oblivion, you look like a withered old man, quite pathetic really. 3. The game being on a massive scale is always an appeal to me, its as if you could spend countless hours on a game and still not have seen everything, and never experience the same journey twice. But of course their are more problems. The traveling system. Its far to easy to go back and fourth to places. Ok towns are fine, but small hidden areas? The player should scour the earth to find them. Caves and tombs. What a shame. EVERY cave looks similar to the last with beams of light from above poking through, to standard dark rocky walkways, and the same with tombs only with some architecture. It really feels glossed over and more boring.
But thats enough of the cons, the battle system has finally been sorted out, good and propper. You no longer swing your weapon 100 times and "miss" each time. The duels actually take skill and there aren't any cheat codes to ease your way through the game either. (because its easier than morrowind) ... though.. there is a money glitch... anyway i can only hope that the next installment will be as big, keep the battle system and of course remain about the elder scrolls.
Best RPG
The best role playing game i have played great fun and hours upon hours of fun and exiting gameplay.
Living life your own way...
Unlike many other R.P.G games Oblivion has sealed all of its patches with a fresh layer of paint. Mistakes such as shallow combat variations do not appear in this game. Explore some towns and you'll hear some rumors, then eventually you might be lead to a great treasure. This game is NOT boring! With a huge amount of depth, gorgeous cinematic graphics and complex plots and quests this game has truly reached perfection. Live life your own way, at character creation make yourself a stealthy archer or a chivalrous knight from a selection of races with different benefits eg. A Wood Elf. Alter your face to your exact choice. You can also earn houses or for a more adventurous type, buy a horse for faster travel.
The main storyline is quite mysterious at first, starting at the emperor's death and your ultimate-aim, to save your world 'Tamriel' from complete destruction from the gates of 'Oblivion'. However, the storyline is not essential for finishing the game. Items lie in every nook and cranny, quests in every town and city, new skills to be learned from wandering the known world even jobs, guilds and new exotic weapons or spells being sold in local shops. The only flaws lie in occasional glitches but generally the game plays very well.
Oblivion is a game where practically anything is possible with realistic aspects-not only graphics but the laws of physics(a dead man will drop his sword as it clatters on the ground). To be anyone, to travel anywhere and to do anything; I suggest you get it as soon as you can: you won't be disappointed, the pleasure is all yours...
Fantastic game and service!!
The delivery was quick and simple and the game itself was a blast to play!
